Vintage Nintendo Controller Business Card Holder

What are you going to do with all your business cards while you’re waiting to give them out?  A good business card holder is the most important tool you can own.  They keep your business cards safe, they show a bit of flair when you pull it out to give a business card away, and most importantly, they say something about you and your personality silently, without you opening your mouth.  Plus, they are a great compliment to the design of your actual business cards.

That said, I know we thought that the miniature briefcase business card holder we found a ways back was the coolest holder we’d ever seen, but now we have to say, this one might eek it out for the top spot.  It’s that cool.  Think back to your childhood, or your children’s childhoods and one thing might come into your mind:  Nintendo.  Yes, the original Gray, Black and Red Nintendo System.  Nothing says throwback fun like the original NES.  _nintendo_business_card_holder

So what if you had a business card holder that was a replica design of an original Nintendo controller?!  It looks like it’s constructed out of one of those Perler Beads kits and it looks absolutely spot on.  Imagine putting your business cards into this bad boy and taking it out to everyone’s surprise.  Honestly, the only thing that would be cooler, would be if you had a REAL NES Controller to use as a business card holder!!

Nevertheless, looks amazing, and what a great and creative idea!

A Wad of Business Cards in his Wallet… Sigh.

Met a gentleman today for lunch – long time successful local business person who owns a pet supply store.  I’m a new member of our local Chamber of Commerce and one of the things they encourage you to do is have lunch with a “Mentor” – and this guy had been recommended to me.

Had a great conversation, got lots of good advice, this guy must have known every third person who walked in the restaurant.

So at the end of our meeting I offered him two business cards (that’s a strategy I recommend – handle someone a couple of cards, with a suggestion that they give one to someone else or let their secretary file the extra copy.)

He handed me back the second card.

I’ve never had THAT happen before… then he rather sheepishly pulled his wallet out of his back pocket.

There was a whole stack of business cards in there, he fanned them out and quipped “Pick a card, any card…”

He keeps ALL his business cards in his wallet!  Which to me is pretty unbelievable.

So why is that worth a blog post?  What is there to learn – other than the fact needs a decent business card storage system?

I think it’s important to realize that you have no idea where your business card will wind up – how it’s stored (if at all) – who will keep it (and who won’t) – and those factors influence how you use your own cards.

That gentleman has absolutely no use for some of the clever cards Tyler finds because they simply won’t fit in his wallet.

And he probably won’t get your card and keep it (believe me, there’s no more room!) – so you’ll have to give him a card over and over again if he needs the info.  With someone like him, you need LOTS of business cards – and/or your business card needs to be something worth keeping.

The Business Card Construction Crane…What?!

We’ve seen quite a few things be created out of business cards on this blog.  We’ve seen business card catapults, we’ve seen business cards disappear in magic tricks, we’ve seen business cards converted into 3D business cards, even pop-up books.  What we’ve never seen, however, is a business card creation of this magnitude, or this degree of, well, Awesome.Crane

That’s right, looks like the folks over at PetrinaCase.com have actually taken someones business cards and created a full on, business card construction crane.  Basically, they take 20 business cards you provide them, any business cards, and they come up with a full-fledged 3D sculpture.  They say they can do anything, for any sport, but this is arguably the most impressive.  The sheer number of moving parts, the scale and just how intricate it is is mind-blowing.  All using business cards!

All this goes to show you is this:  If you have time, a bit of creativity and the time to be precise, you really can to some amazing things with your business cards, and marketing your business.  If you don’t have that time, energy, creativity or desire to be precise, you could always go to PetrinaCase.com with all of your OvernightPrints.com business cards and let them do the dirty work!

What are you waiting for, design those business cards today, save 20 of them, and get them over to the sculptors.  Imagine how good YOUR sculpture will look!

Thank You on Business Cards

In a recent post I spoke about the human tendency of people to accept whatever is handed to them, and how you can use that to good effect by handing your business card to people you meet.

Of course, if someone isn’t expecting your card, they may not really know what to do with it – but they’ll almost certainly look to see what you handed them.

Which is why it’s smart to make sure that the business card you give them has something useful or interesting or clever on it – something that will help you prolong an existing conversation, or even start a conversation about whatever it is that you do.

Tom Hopkins, the author of “Selling for Dummies”, suggests that you take the time in advance to write “Thank you” across the bottom of a few of your cards and have these ready to hand out.

When you hand someone a business card, and they ask why it says “Thank you” on it, say “I guess I’m thanking you in advance for what hopefully will be the opportunity someday to serve your (whatever your business is) needs.”

Why this particular wording?  Because you come across as humble.  Nice.  Spontaneous.  Non-threatening.  And because offering to serve someone’s needs makes them feel important!

Now of course – there are other ways to enhance a business card in order to provoke a reaction or initiate a conversation.   Adding a hole to a business card would be one option; I’ve mentioned this idea in a previous post.

I hadn’t run across the “Thank you” idea before, though, which is why I wanted to share it with you.  I think I’ll go write it on a few of my own cards and I’ll let you know what happens!

The Shakespearean “Populist” Business Card

It’s Monday, which means it is officially back to the grind.  If you happen to love that ‘grind’ then welcome back, if  you don’t, then our apologies.  That said, today we thought we’d show you a business card that’s a bit different, but completely inspiring as far as a throw-back design and completely unique use of colors and brilliant font faces to achieve the desired result.

It looks like this card belongs to a “Heart of America Shakespeare Festival” and being that the festival was free, according to the card designer, he went with a “populist” design to help portray that fact.  Perfectly executed.  The detailing on this card, from the tiny star in the top left, to the perfectly chosen, Russian inspired font for the founder’s information is absolutely spot-on.  It combines to create a completely memorable business card, with the famous Shakespeare bust stencil design on the front.  Bottom line, if given this card you wouldn’t forget it, or the festival that it’s representing.

shakespeareCheck it out.  Personally, our favorite part is the font face they used for all of the important information.  We’ve said it once, but we’ll say it again, the EASIEST way to make your business card literally scream “You” and your personality, is to select the perfect font.  You wouldn’t put a giant bold thick font on a card for a bed and breakfast, just like you wouldn’t use ornate, old fashioned cursive for a Tattoo Parlor.  Pick the right font, and half the battle is already done for you.

Remember that when you design your next business card at OvernightPrints.com.  The perfect font helps say a lot about your business and most importantly, you, before you have to say anything at all.

Two Different Ways to Advertise Your Restaurant

Hello and Happy Friday!  Hopefully you made it through the rough work week unscathed and are ready to enjoy the best weekend possible.  One way to do so, is to head out and enjoy a great dinner at a restaurant.  Which brings us to today’s two business cards, both advertising the same type of business, a restaurant, but both doing it in Completely different ways.  It’s always good to see how two different businesses in the same industry tackle the same problem:  What to do with your business cards.greek

That’s right, we have two different restaurants, one is a Greek style, and the other appears to be an order-in style, takeaway restaurant.  Both have chosen to address their business cards in COMPLETELY different fashions.  The Greek restaurant chose to use individually broken pieces of very Greek styled plates as their cards.  That’s right, broken pieces of plates!  The information including the phone number has then been printed directly on the plate shard.  Wow.  bite

Next up, the “Bitten” business cards that have great color, great layout, but most importantly, they used a die cut “bite” mark that makes the business card literally look like someone came along and took a giant chomp out of it.  How simple, but how genius!  It adds instant memorability to the card, without going overboard with extra design and energy.  Simple, effective, great.

This just goes to show, no matter what business you are in, there are many, many ways to use your business cards to advertise yourself, and do it memorably.  These two restaurants went about it in completely different ways, but both achieved great results.  What more can you ask for?

Enjoy your weekend and we’ll see you bright and early Monday morning!!!

Hand Your Business Card to Someone, Anyone!

I  was re-reading a few sections in one of the “For Dummies” books the other day and it touched on a bit of human psychology that I’d honestly never considered in the context of business cards.

It’s the realization that most people will take whatever is handed to them as long as their hands aren’t already full.

Think about that for a minute.  When was the last time someone handed something to you and you did NOT put out your hand to accept it?

It’s automatic.  You usually don’t even think about whether or not you really WANT what the person is handing to you, right?  Thousands of servers of legal documents (the ones requesting your presence in court) rely on this human tendency!

So you can certainly use it to your advantage by having a business card ready to hand to someone at a moment’s notice.  If you have to fumble through your purse or head back out to the car to dig through your briefcase to find your business card holder – by then the person may have had time to think.  You want to take advantage of this automatic response – if you hand your business card to someone, they’ll probably take it.

Next post – how to advantage of that by creating an interesting or conversation-generating card!

Interactive Business Cards: Same Info, Double the Fun

When it comes to a memorable business card, if you were to look back on the history of every single card you’ve ever been handed, you’ll probably agree with me that the ones that are a bit more, well, interactive, tend to stick out in your memory.  It doesn’t matter if the interactivity was only the ability to tear something off, write something on it, move something around, whatever.  The ability to interact with a business card means that the people holding it will want to Keep holding it, and show others, who will then want to hold it.

creative-business-cards-glammer

So, on this fine Wednesday, to help you get through the remainder of your week, I want you to check out one of the most creative, and simple forms of an interactive business card.  Basically, it’s the card of a hair stylist, or a salon of some sort, and the genius of this card is, it lets you use scissors to basically give the cartoon on the business card any hairstyle you wish.  Genius.  Just so genius.

What a way to advertise your business!  Letting people get creative WITH your business card and all without them actually removing or destroying your actual information.  What’s cooler is when you’re all done tweaking the cartoon, you’re left with a business card that looks even MORE creative, as it’s a complete cut out, no longer the rectangle it started as!

What’s even better is, you could do something exactly like this if you use OvernightPrints.com.  If you upload YOUR design just like this, you could also create an interactive, “cut-out” ready business card all without sacrificing inexpensive prices and amazing quality.  What are you waiting for, make your own today and show us the results!

Scrabble Business Cards: Amazing & Smart

Here’s a little fact you might not have known about me before today, I love Scrabble.  I love playing it online, offline with friends, strangers, I don’t care.  As long as I can play Scrabble with someone, I’m happy.  That said, when I stumbled upon these fine business cards today, to say I got a little excited is most likely the biggest understatement of the week.

scrabble

That’s right, we just found some SCRABBLE inspired business cards.  By the looks of things, they belong to someone named Courtney Danforth, and word is they were created by a guy named Jonathan Danforth.  Here’s how they were made:

“Created by Jonathan Danforth, programmer and photographer for Courtney Danforth. These were constructed out of sugar maple wood, cut on the end grain, laser etched, and finished by hand.”

In a word:  Amazing.  Look at the craftsmanship, look at the authenticity.  I would hate to give even a single one of these away, but I know one thing is for sure, whenever you DID give one away, whoever got their hands on it would be showing it off to just about every human being within a 10 block radius.  That, my friends, is the power of a great business card.

Remember, for a business card to be great it doesn’t have to be cut out of maple wood and stamped to look like a Scrabble piece, it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune and it doesn’t have to be insanely unique.  All it has to be is represent YOU to your best ability and be something you’re proud to give away.

Head over to OverNightPrints.com right now and start designing YOUR best business card.  The sooner, the better.
